Juice Box (previously known as Honeymoon) is one of the coffees DAK Coffee Roasters says they've returned to most this year โ a clean, washed Colombian coffee with a flavor profile that leans surprisingly close to Ethiopia's fruit-forward classics rather than a typical Colombian cup. Expect a bright, juicy blood orange character up front, a fresh rhubarb tang, and a warm honey sweetness underneath, all wrapped in a beautifully clean, bright finish.
It comes from the Las Perlitas producer group in Urrao, Antioquia โ one of Colombia's most exciting emerging specialty regions โ grown at 2,000 masl, where cool temperatures slow cherry development and concentrate flavor. The lot is the Chiroso variety, a genetically confirmed Ethiopian heirloom now cultivated in Colombia, which explains its Ethiopian-leaning cup character.
The distinctive profile is shaped by "cochadas" processing: a gradual method where hand-picked cherries are hulled every 4โ7 days and blended with previous days' harvest, slowly homogenizing the lot. Fermentation happens mostly in water, keeping the cup clean and free of funky, overpowering notes. On the final day, everything is washed together and dried to optimal moisture โ resulting in a coffee that's precise, juicy, and endlessly drinkable.
