The Abaca+ is CAFEC's most versatile paper filter, and the one we reach for most often on our own bar. It delivers the smoothest, steadiest water flow in the CAFEC range, which means you control the extraction — the paper never fights you.

Made in Oita, Japan, by Sanyo Sangyo: the first manufacturer in the world to develop the cone-shaped coffee filter, producing filter paper since 1973.

Why Abaca+ brews better coffee

Abaca fibre resists clogging. These filters blend wood pulp with abaca — Manila hemp, a banana-family plant fibre. Abaca is as strong as wood pulp but far more liquid-permeable, so the paper keeps flowing even when your grinder produces a lot of fines. No more stalled brews and bitter, over-extracted cups.

Two-side crepe technology. Most filter paper is creped on one side only. CAFEC's original papermaking process creates crepe on both sides. On the Abaca+, the crepe height is low but the crepes sit closer together than on any other CAFEC paper — which widens the total paper surface and keeps water paths open throughout the brew.

Predictable from first pour to last drop. The drawdown stays steady start to finish, so your recipe repeats. Change the grind or the pour and the cup responds the way you expect it to.

Forgiving of technique. This is why Abaca+ works so well as a café house filter: it tolerates variation in pouring style. Brews stay consistent across every barista on shift, and there's far less to teach a new hire.

A clean cup without the wait. Excellent clarity and sediment-free results, without the long drawdown that comes with denser papers.

Overall, these filter are superior to the classic Hario filters and once you try them, you will never go back to Hario filters.

Which size do I need?

Choose Cup1 if you brew one or two cups at a time — up to around 20g of coffee. This is the right size for most home brewing and for single-serve pour over on bar.

Choose Cup4 if you regularly brew for two to four people at once.

How to use

Fold along the seam, seat the filter in your dripper. You can prerinse the filter to fit it better to the dripper but it is not mandatory. We feel the coffee tastes better without rinsing.
