Intro
A Kenyan unlike most others. Kenya is famous for bright washed coffees, but this AA lot from the revived Rui Ruiru Factory in Nyeri is a natural anaerobic β rich, jammy and intensely sweet, while keeping that unmistakable Kenyan brightness. A great comeback story in a cup.

The Producer
Rui Ruiru was once a busy cooperative factory in Nyeri's Mathira region, but it fell into disrepair after the group stopped operating in 2014. From 2020 it was rebuilt with local community leaders, government support and Crowd Farm Africa. Today it works with surrounding smallholder farmers and is experimenting with natural and anaerobic processing β still rare in Kenya.
The Process
This lot is a Natural Anaerobic:
- π Hand-picking β Only ripe cherries are harvested
- π§ͺ Anaerobic fermentation β Whole cherries ferment in sealed, oxygen-limited tanks
- βοΈ Raised-bed drying β Dried whole on African beds with the fruit intact
The Cup
Strawberry and red grapes lead with jammy sweetness, balanced by a tart cranberry brightness. Dried fig adds depth, and fruity florals linger on the finish. Very sweet, lively acidity and a moderate, clean fermentation character.
