The Origin
Bugisu sits on the western slopes of Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano on the UgandaβKenya border. Its high altitude, rich volcanic soils and steady rainfall make it Uganda's best-known Arabica region. Coffee here is grown by thousands of smallholder farmers on small plots, often alongside bananas and other food crops, and the cherries are gathered and processed together.
The Process
This lot is Natural processed:
- π Ripe cherry selection β Cherries are picked and sorted at ripeness
- βοΈ Whole-cherry drying β Dried with the fruit intact, passing sweetness and fruit character to the bean
- π§ Hulling β The dried fruit is removed once the beans reach the right moisture
Natural processing gives Bugisu's classic dark-fruit character extra intensity and a fuller body.
The Cup
Dark berries and plum candy lead, with a soft sugar cane sweetness in the middle. The finish is smooth and long, with a gentle cacao nib bitterness that rounds everything off. Layered and comforting β lovely as pour-over or batch brew.
