A clean, classic Ethiopian washed coffee from one of the country's most exciting young producers. Grown above 2,000 metres in Guji by Tamiru Tadesse of ALO Coffee, this 74158 lot is everything people love about washed Ethiopia: fragrant white florals, soft stone fruit and a bright citrus finish. An easy everyday filter coffee that still feels special.

The Producer

Tamiru Tadesse founded ALO Coffee together with his wife Messi, motivated by the unfair prices local farmers were receiving and inspired by Ethiopia's first Cup of Excellence in 2020. Remarkably, just a year after starting out, their coffee from Tamiru's home village of Alo won the national Cup of Excellence. Today ALO works with growers across Sidama and Guji, and its lots are sought after by top roasters worldwide.

74158 is one of the JARC-selected Ethiopian varieties, valued for its clean, floral and tea-like character.

The Process

This lot is Washed:

• 🍒 Selective picking — Ripe cherries delivered and sorted at the Bore station
• 🔧 Pulping — Fruit is removed before fermentation
• 💧 Fermentation & washing — Remaining mucilage is broken down and washed away
• ☀️ Raised-bed drying — Dried slowly on African beds for a clean, stable bean

Washing strips away everything but the variety and terroir — which is exactly why the florals come through so clearly.

The Cup

White flowers open the cup, followed by soft, sweet peach and a crisp grapefruit brightness on the finish. Acidity is high and refreshing, with a light, delicate body. Lovely as pour-over or batch brew, and a great introduction to Ethiopian coffee for anyone new to specialty.
